Edmonton Christian Northeast School Moves Into New Campus

May 01, 2008

After significant challenges including road bans, increased construction costs in a booming economy and a severe winter, students started classes at the new Northeast location on January 21, 2008. The school, located at 4950 – 159 Avenue, held a Dedication and Celebration Service entitled "Faithfulness through the Generations". The service included many local dignitaries and a message by Rev. Ron Klok, minister of Centrepointe Community Christian Reformed Church. Centerpointe, formerly know as Glad Tidings, has a unique joint use agreement with The Edmonton Society for Christian Education, operating Edmonton Christian Schools.

Edmonton Christian Schools’ mission is to integrate faith, learning and service into the entire program, educating students for joyful and responsible service to God and society. Established in 1949, Edmonton Christian Schools has been an alternative program under Edmonton Public Schools since 1999.

In 2002, Edmonton Christian Schools embarked on an ambitious expansion of its facilities to accommodate an increase in students starting with a major expansion of Edmonton Christian High School. Almost 1,400 students are enrolled at Edmonton Christian Schools, which operates 3 schools.

The new campus cost just under $9 million. Total approved financing for the Society operations is $6.5 million. Through members’ deposits, the Christian Credit Union is thankful it could play a part in expanding Christian education in Edmonton.
