Interac® Flash - The fast, secure way to use your own money

Interac FlashInterac Flash is Canada’s first contactless debit solution. It allows you to pay for everyday purchases quickly, securely and conveniently by simply holding your Interac Flash-enabled bank card in front of the reader at checkout. You can use it at merchants across Canada – wherever you see the Interac Flash logo.

How do I use Interac Flash?

Here’s how to make an Interac Flash transaction using the contactless feature on your Interac debit card:

  1. Look for the contactless symbol* on your Interac debit card. This means your debit card can use Interac Flash contactless debit technology.
  2. When making a purchase in-store for less than $100, look for the Interac Flash logo on contactless terminals at check out.
  3. When the terminal prompts you for payment, hold your card in front of the terminal.
  4. Wait for the beep and/or “approved” message on the terminal. This means your transaction is complete and your purchase was automatically debited from your bank account.

You’re protected from fraud losses

You will not be liable for losses resulting from circumstances beyond your reasonable control when using Interac Debit, Interac Flash, cross-border debit and Interac Online service. This includes losses resulting from technical errors, system problems or fraud.

You have a role in protecting yourself from losses:

Protect your PIN

Always shield your PIN with your hand or body during every transaction, whether at an ABM or at a point-of-sale terminal. Never disclose your PIN to anyone including friends or family.

Report a lost card

Notify your financial institution immediately if your bank card is lost or stolen.

Check bank statements

Be sure to regularly check your bank statements to verify legitimate transactions. If you detect any unusual activity, contact your financial institution immediately.

Suspect fraudulent activity?

If you suspect losses have resulted from situations beyond your reasonable control, including technical errors, system problems or fraud, the following steps must take place:

  1. Contact your financial institution to make a claim for the losses incurred.
  2. Your financial institution will investigate the unauthorized transactions or transaction issues.
  3. You will be reimbursed by your financial institution for all losses resulting from situations beyond your reasonable control.
